KickStart Represents at the Digicel-Man.City Academy
Digicel Kickstart Academy (no relation to KickStart FC – good name, though!) held in Jamaica from October 26 to October 30 was the culmination of the Digicel Kickstart Clinics, which were held across the Caribbean earlier this year. The Barbados leg of the Digicel Kickstart Clinic was conducted at our very own home ground, March 24th and 25th 2015. From the 30 players that participated, three KickStart players were chosen to attend the Digicel Kickstart Academy in Jamaica: Brendan Sidaway, Jordan Every, Cliff Gooding-Edgehill and Parker O’Donnell, as wild card. As Brendan was unable to attend, Parker took his place.
These three boys had the opportunity to train with top youth coaches from Manchester City FC, alongside 27 of the best youth players in the region. Representatives from nine (9) countries attended the Academy in Jamaica including: Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, Bermuda, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad.
The boys trained over the course of a week, improving not only their abilities, but their understanding of ‘what it takes’ to be a professional player. A grand prize was extended – a trip for 8 of the players to attend a training camp at Manchester City FC in England, early next year. While none of our boys were chosen among the 8, which comprised 3 players from Jamaica, 3 from Trinidad and 2 from Haiti, our players gained some valuable experiences, made regional friends and return home with a new-found drive.
Way to go, guys!
