KickStart U19s Win The Barbados Cup

KickStart advanced as winners of Zone B after a nil-nil draw against the BSA, a 2-0 default win against Clarkes Hill and a 3-0 victory against Roxborough from Trinidad. Goal scorers included: Brendan Sidaway (2) and Eric Joseph (1).

In the semi-finals, KickStart defeated a second Trinidadian opponent 2-1, conceding their only goal of the tournament.  A wonderfully worked passing move was finished off by Bryan Johnson and Joseph’s brilliant solo run and shot put KickStart into a comfortable 2-0 lead.  In the final 10 minutes, goalkeeper Carlton Wilson made several important saves but was eventually beaten by a powerful low shot which bounced up off of his leg and into the net.

The final matched them up against BSA for a second time and this time around KickStart made their dominance pay off. A headed goal by Ben Noel from a Sidaway corner gave KickStart the lead early in the 2nd half and Joseph’s blistering volley from Sidaway’s diagonal pass, secured the championship.

Aside from capturing the championship, KickStart also took him several individual awards including:

  • Best Goalkeeper – Carlton Wilson;
  • Best Midfielder – Brendan Sidaway;
  • Best Forward – Eric Joseph.

Although Best Defender went to current senior national player Renaldo Bailey (Bagatelle), Ben Noel caught the eye of the Barbados Under-20 coach and received a call up to the Barbados U20 training squad.
